There are many, many things that Google could do, that we chose not to do... One day we had a conversation where we figured we could just try to predict the stock market. And then we decided it was illegal.

This is so insane that I have to assume he was mis-quoted.

It is not uncommon for techie visionaries to have no clue as to how the commercial world functions. Anymore than you'd expect Wall Street brokers to design the next Iphone.

In fact, this is the status quo.

So many analysts predict the market but I think to predict the market is just foolishness. Yes Google I am totally agree with you.

The reason they would think it illegal is because they could easily perform massive machine learning and data mining techniques on traders, industry insiders, and government officials connected to Google; using unstructured analytics techniques of the sort that IBM is currently becoming very popular for.

The illegality would arise from the violations of privacy and access violations to sensitive insider information.

    Cheers.

SO, IF YOU COULD PREDICT THE MARKET. WOULD IT BE ILLEGAL TO SELL YOUR SOFTWARE OR ACCESS TO YOUR WEBSITE WITH THE INFORMATION?
