24% growth in Mac

India's PC market reached a record high of 15.9 million units in 2025. Omdia analyzes this growth, forecasting a 9.8% decline for 2026 as rising component costs and supply pressures limit device affordability and availability.

NB: Mac sales grew 24% year over year, iPad sales by 40%. If the Q4 is representative for the year, Apple could be selling 1.2 million Macs in India each year. The Mac Neo could light this market on fire.

As ever with Apple, it gets down to production capacity. My general sense of Apple is that they are very conservative when it comes to dialing up production capacity.

Note that Macs consume a LOT of physical material, far more than iPhones. And while Apple has existing production lines that use these materials in high amounts, they are bespoken for by successful products. Ergo, if they develop a "hit" product, which it appears they have in the Mac Neo, then they need to bring new production lines on to match demand.

Now maybe, unlike the past, they are more prepared to do this, but I'm guessing that they will, yet again, have underestimated the potential demand, and will require a considerable amount of time to match the coming demand. In the meantime, if they are required to wait for their product for an overly-long time, some folks will be looking for alternatives.

The good news is that Apple has a lot of alternatives - but if the demand shifts to them, then they will also find they need to increase production capacity.

And in the meantime, Apple's competitors will be jumping on the bandwagon to the extent possible, for example by dropping the price tags and sucking up the loss in profit just for the sake of having a toehold.

That's the potential bad news. The potential good news is that Apple can kind of do the same thing, and shift existing Mac or iPad production lines and resources to churning out more Mac Neo's at the cost of extending out delivery times for other products using those resources. Yes, it will cut into margins, but at least it will help them hang on to the tail of the Mac Neo tiger....
